Known limitation: Variable font weights in SP Page Builder

OD Local Fonts correctly registers and loads local variable fonts for SP Page Builder. In current SP Page Builder versions, the Typography editor limits local/custom fonts to the Regular (400) weight and disables the Font Weight selector. This behavior also affects variable fonts, even when the font provides a complete weight range. We have reported the issue to JoomShaper and are monitoring their response. Workaround: When using Helix Ultimate, variable font weights can be selected normally through Helix Ultimate’s Typography settings. We will update this entry as soon as there is news from JoomShaper.

Update: JoomShaper has confirmed that font-weight selection in SP Page Builder is intentionally supported only for Google Fonts. For local and custom fonts, the Typography editor remains limited to Regular (400), including variable fonts. OD Local Fonts continues to register and load local variable fonts correctly. However, their available weights cannot currently be selected through SP Page Builder’s Typography settings. Variable font weights can be selected normally through Helix Ultimate’s Typography settings.

RESOLVED in OD Local Fonts 2.0.1 (September 2026) This issue has been fully resolved with the release of OD Local Fonts 2.0.1: - Font-weight selection restored: Selectable weights for local and variable fonts are now fully operational within the SP Page Builder editor. - Smart metadata integration: ODLF connects locally hosted font files directly to SP Page Builder’s internal variant pipeline, allowing weight selection without modifying SP Page Builder core files. - Accurate variable font ranges: ODLF reads the actual font weight axes from font files (e.g. 400–700) instead of generic defaults. - 100% locally hosted: All font files continue to be served directly from your server; no external requests to Google servers are made. Action required: Update to OD Local Fonts 2.0.1 (and ensure SP Page Builder is on 6.9.1+). Run the SPPB sync once in OD Local Fonts settings, then hard-refresh the SPPB editor.
